2.2 Specific Rules
The information dealt with in this section has been drawn from the IAFA template structure.
Handle: The handle, or unique identifier, of the record
RULES:
Ignore. Automatically calculated.
Category: The type of resource, e.g., a conference report, an art gallery
RULES:
Currently unused.
Title: Complete title of the resource
RULES:
- Source: The title is taken from the chief source of information.
- Entry: AACR2 states that the title proper should be transcribed exactly as to
wording, order, and spelling, but not necessarily as to punctuation and capitalization.
[3] The following rules for capitalisation are observed:
- Capitalize the first word of the title proper, an alternative title [a], or a parallel title
[b]. Capitalize other words, including the first word of each element of other title
information, as instructed in the rules for the language involved. [4]
- Capitalise all other words in the title except articles [c], conjunctions [d], and
prepositions [e] (standard rules for the English language).
- AACR2 states that where there is no title to be gleaned from the chief source(s) of
information, it must be created by the cataloguer. For the purposes of the Project,
the following practice should suffice: use the words `no title' enclosed in square
brackets:
e.g. [no title]
Short title: Summary title (if title is very long)
RULES:
- Source: The short title is taken from the original title.
- Entry: See rules prescribed for Title.
Alternative title: An alternative to the title or short title fields
RULES:
- Source: The alternative title is taken from the chief source(s) of information.
- Entry: See rules prescribed for Title.

of any hardware/software requirements necessary to use the resource

source(s) of information.

e.g. Requires an MPEG viewer

NOTES:
AACR2 does not deal with a specific field for a description of a resource's content.
This information is dealt with in many different note fields where information may be
added as appropriate. For the purposes of the Project, it is necessary to have a
single, descriptive note field to outline the content of a given resource.

chief source(s) of information.
- Entry: It should contain the following:
- Information pertaining to its subject matter
- Information pertaining to its resource type (e.g., a report, an educational guide,
a search service, a gallery, etc.)
- Information pertaining to its author if appropriate
- Information pertaining to its corporate body if appropriate (e.g., Museum of
Modern Art, San Francisco)
- Information pertaining to its language, if other than English
- Information pertaining to its additional links to other resources
2.1 For mailing lists, other guidelines should be followed. Include:
